Case: Leading global computer hardware company tasked SPA to provide performance testing service to test its web-based Notebook battery recall application..

 

Challenge: More than 4 million items to be recalled, more than 40 millions possible hits. Client tasked SPA to perform functional testing, accessibility testing, security testing, performance testing, scalability testing, and capacity testing to ensure application was robust, scalable and reliable. There was no room for errors or downtime as these could adversely impact client image.

Solution: The client leveraged SPA as a full outsource partner, with all work performed at SPA's facility. As part of the project, SPA:

  • Performed exploratory functional testing in a rapidly changing environment
  • Identified gaps for accessibility compliance by using tools for accessibility testing
  • Performed security and reliability testing
  • Executed tests to identify performance bottlenecks
  • Performed capacity planning
  • Follow the sun approach for challenging timelines

Results: Leveraging SPA's proprietary Q-Pattern IP and Risk-based Prioritization methodologies, the team was productive from week 1. SPA team detected many performance bottlenecks, and security and reliability issues. In addition, a large number of functional defects were identified and corrected. The appropriate use of tools and optimization of testing plan using appropriate test methods resulted in the project finishing ahead of its stated deadline. Case: A global retail chain contracted with SPA to test its web-based B2C product.

 

Challenge: In addition to application being large and complex, there was requirement of supporting a large number of concurrent users. Aggressive time lines added additional challenge.

 

Solution: SPA conducted exploratory functional testing, performance testing, and reliability testing:

  • Create usage scenarios with client help
  • Defined performance testing metrics
  • Reduce cost by using open source testing tool Open STA
  • Rapidly created custom tool to meet client-specific requirements
  • Implemented structured processes and reusable scripts that the client can continue using even after SPA has completed project

Results: SPA team used Web Server load balancing and identified many critical performance bottlenecks. SPA team achieved desired concurrency by optimizing database queries. Project was completed on time and within budget.
