Challenge: More than 4 million items to be recalled, more than 40 millions possible hits. Client tasked SPA to perform functional testing, accessibility testing, security testing, performance testing, scalability testing, and capacity testing to ensure application was robust, scalable and reliable. There was no room for errors or downtime as these could adversely impact client image.

Challenge: In addition to application being large and complex, there was requirement of supporting a large number of concurrent users. Aggressive time lines added additional challenge.

Solution: SPA conducted exploratory functional testing, performance testing, and reliability testing:

• Create usage scenarios with client help
• Defined performance testing metrics
• Reduce cost by using open source testing tool Open STA
• Rapidly created custom tool to meet client-specific requirements
• Implemented structured processes and reusable scripts that the client can continue using even after SPA has completed project

Results: SPA team used Web Server load balancing and identified many critical performance bottlenecks. SPA team achieved desired concurrency by optimizing database queries. Project was completed on time and within budget.
