Ever wondered what a developer and a programmer do? Is there any difference between programming and developing?

Programming is the process of designing, writing, testing, debugging and maintaining the source code of computer programs which can be written one or more programming languages. The purpose of programming is to create a set of instructions that computers use to perform specific operations or to exhibit desired behaviours. The process of writing source code often requires expertise in many different subjects, including knowledge of the application domain, specialized algorithms and formal logic.

Development is the process of writing and maintaining the source code, but in a broader sense of the term it includes all that is involved between the conception of the desired software through to the final manifestation of the software, ideally in a planned and structured process. Therefore, software development may include research, new development, prototyping, modification, reuse, re-engineering, maintenance, or any other activities that result in software products.

Today cloud computing is scattering like cloud everywhere which might affect the programmers. Programming is become much easier after evolution of cloud. Will programmers lose their charm? As cloud computing ripens in the coming years, could it eradicate programmers?

Developing involves high level of programming and coding as compared to programming. Developing and programming are interlinked. For eg: writing the code for an ATM machine, a developer will write a high level code or programming language of developing a machine, but a programmer will write low level codes.

Mostly everything is available on cloud, where in a developer doesn’t need to write too many codes. Earlier when cloud was not in picture every small code had to be written. Ready tools available on the web at the ease of a click which can generate various codes, called code snippets. This helps developer to entirely utilise those tools which requires less efforts

Open source platforms are available on the web. Developers can share codes online. There is no need to write a code again and again as it can be easily downloaded from the web and customised according to our needs. This in lieu decreases the dependency on programmers. Any lay man with technical knowledge can do the same.

Another fascinating technology used nowadays in the SDKs and APIs which are easy codes which can be easily “Plug n Played” with any application. This also doesn’t need much of programmer’s intervention. Thus, the programmers job is easily took over by application developers or any layman.

With the advancement of new technologies, do you think a programmer is really needed? Its time to think!

A Software Development Company was in a situation where it was in a middle of a project and suddenly the client informed them about change in the technology requirements for a particular module of the application to be built. The software company did not have much expertise in this new technology as this this was a comparatively new technology in the market and not many resources were available.

So, they approached us to help them on this project for the module based on the new technology.

The Challenge

The first challenge we faced was that of understanding the already built system so that we could find the matching link between the existing and the new module.

The second challenge was that they needed to finish the project in a short span of time with cost as an extra constrain.

They wanted this site to serve as a catalyst for a positive shift in behavior.

They also wanted us to take care of the Testing part of the website.

The Challenge

The biggest challenge in this project was that the company had no such previous experience of building such general awareness site. So, we had to start the project from scratch. Not much people in the client company could help us on the appropriate design as there was lack of IT knowledge in the healthcare research institute.

Next challenge was to bring in new and innovative features into the website which would offer everyday tools and information to empower the community.

A chemical industry client was regularly paying heavy penalties for not conforming to the environment protection agencies’ gas emission standards. Also client did not have an ability to monitor gas emissions as well as how emissions compare with the limits set by environment agencies. The consequence was huge penalties and high cost of time spent in dealing with environment agencies.

The Challenge

The biggest challenge in this project was that the company had no such previous system or application where the amount of gases was tracked. So, we had to start the project from scratch. Not much people in the company could help us on the solution as there was lack of IT knowledge. Firstly we had to have some hardware devices for catching the level of released greenhouse gases, and then this information was to be transformed to graphical display with the help of software.

Next challenge was to convert this detected level of gases to charts; graphs etc. so that this data can be used to control the greenhouse gases being released and ultimately meet the legal and government standards for the same. Cost of building such a system was also a major challenge.

A Texas based construction company had an already existing system for monitoring their inventory and overall system. It used to track information about the level of materials in the inventory and generate timely report for all processes of the company. It automated the Purchase as well as the Dispatch system of the construction materials.

They approached us with a requirement of mobility solution for the existing system which would help their employees to not only feed the system with information but also get required data without being actually present in the company premises.

The Challenge

Among the various challenges in this project, the major challenge was to bring the exact functionality of the existing system in the organization to a mobile application. Another big challenge we faced was to make all the employees work with the mobile application as most of the employees were non-technical and reluctant to use technical gadgets.

The Challenge

The greatest challenge in this project was that the client was a quite old manufacturing company and had lots of bye-products falling in the waste material category. Detecting each bye-product and segregating the important material and the waste materials was very difficult.

Another important challenge was the management of the post disposal effects of the waste materials.

Situation

An oil and gas company discussed with us that recently there have been changes in the norms of regarding the emission of gases from all the oil and gas companies under their jurisdiction. They were quite worried about how they will go with the implementation of a system which will be automated and at the same time will be flexible to accept any future change in the norms.

So far, they did not have any system designed for this purpose. They were aware of the fact that many times the gases which are emitted from the oil and gas industries are very dangerous for human health and the overall environment and there is a constant need to measure and analyse these emitted gases. So, they wanted a system to solve all these concerns.

The Challenge

The major challenge in this project was to build a system which would be flexible enough so that it can update its working and data presentation according to the future changes of the regulatory norms. So, this should be achieved with a co-ordinated combination of hardware as well as software.

Next challenge was to convert the detected about the gases into charts; graphs; reports etc. so that this data can be used to control the toxicity of the gases being released and ultimately meet the legal and government standards for the same. Cost of building such a system was also another important challenge.

There are many anthropogenic effects on our natural environment:

Global Warming

Sea Level Rise

Species Extinction

Air, Land Quality Degradation

Nuclear Fallout

Exploitation of natural resources

Blast Fishing

Toxic and Electronic Waste

Acid Mine Drainage

Landfill

To manage this chaotic situation, many industries are taking steps for prevention. Many methods are being discovered in order to purify the environment. Let’s now discuss some of the modern methods for environmental purification:

Design and construction of environmental friendly plants.

Exhaust Gas Treatment System

Contamination check and Soil remediation

Carbon dioxide diagnosis

Solar Power System

Solar energy to purify polluted or salt water

Applications of TiO2 film for environmental purification deposited by controlled electron beam-excited plasma

Environmental Purification by Photocatalyst: Removal of Atmospheric Nitrous Oxides

“Activated Alumina” is an inorganic substance produced by the dehydration of alumina hydroxide at high temperature. The material is highly porous and exhibits tremendous surface area, resulting in superior adsorbent capabilities. It is resistant to thermal shock and abrasion and does not shrink, swell, soften or disintegrate when immersed in water.

UV-C Ultraviolet Germicidal Lights

These methods should be adopted by all the industries according to their suitability so that they can contribute to the environmental purification. This will help all of us to build this world a better place for you, for me and for us!!

Air pollution is the introduction of air and other biological environments that harm the living organisms surviving on this air. The major contributor to this is the emissions from the chemical industry. Air pollutants are mostly the substances which are directly being emitted by a Chemical Process.

Sulphur oxides; Nitrogen Oxide; Carbon Monoxide; Volatile organic compounds; Smoke and dust; Toxic metals such as Lead, Cadmium and Copper; Ammonia and Methane emitted from agricultural processes; Radioactive pollutants such as the radioactive decay of radon; photochemical smog etc. are some of the example of pollutants.

The United States passed Clean Air Act Amendments, which set into motion a nationwide effort to improve the country’s air quality and sets Emission Compliance standards that all the companies have to comply by. So, there is a constant need to check the amount of pollutant gases emitted by the chemical Industries. Companies are being heavily fined if they don’t meet standards.

Many new technologies such as Catalytic Gas Treatment (CGT)/PGT and traditional technologies are used for controlling the air emissions. Other efforts to reduce the air emissions are Legal Regulations, increased fuel efficiency due to Hybrid Vehicles, conversion to greener fuels etc.

Gas monitoring solutions can play an important role in monitoring pollution and estimating future pollution to help put corrective measures in place. These solutions, streamline emissions to assure compliance with the ever-increasing local, regional, and national agencies requirements. These solutions provide:
•	Gas emission information collection
•	Emission calculations quickly
•	Raise alerts when pollution is above projected limits
•	Maintain history and easy reporting at individual as well as aggregate level
•	Project gas emission in future

SP-Assurance has extensive experience building Gas Monitoring Solutions using web and mobile applications helping its clients comply with environment pollution controlling agencies. These solutions display data collected using sensors, plot graphs, present emission at aggregate level as well allow to drill down up to individual entities. Project future gas emission based on the predefined formulas; and raise alarm whenever the gases emitted surpasses the allowed limits.

Are you losing business because your solution does not reach to mobile customers / users?
In today’s world, business and personal communication is changing at the rapid speed which is enabled by revolution in the mobile phone industry. More and more advanced features are being added to the smart phones allowing businesses to add mobile apps that help them provide their customers access to their services anytime anywhere.
The mobile app market is growing leaps and bounds in the last three years. Current statistics indicate that number of the smart phones (iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, etc.) apps downloads in the first half of 2010 was 3.8 billion, which clearly indicate the mobile app development market size.
Internet, hospitality, entertainment and gaming, and travel are some of the key industries that are catalysts for the mobile app development market growth.
